This year, the Cork Puppetry Festival continues to provide world class shows for children, families and adults. Our programme has a strong international contingent, presenting companies from Greece, Iceland, Germany and the UK as well as the best of Cork and Irish puppetry.
One building; five apartments; six characters. The audience watches these characters live their conventional lives in a dark, claustrophobic setting with their fears, obsessions and loneliness laid bare.
Merlin Puppet Theatre dramatise and demonise their characters’ obsessions, before finally punishing and liberating themselves in the most violent manner. They do not attempt to do existential analysis through their work. They are dramatising the modern way of living in its current form – tragedy and comedy. Through the dark rooms of CLOWNS’ HOUSE, the loneliness of the modern man is displayed; prison-like houses, people trapped into their routines and habits, distant from their dreams.
