Granary
produces and presents new & experimental work by artists across
disciplines. The programme combines work in theatre, performance,
dance, live art, installation & music, with a lively critical
programme of PERFORUM talks, workshops
& artists' presentations. Granary is situated between the
academy & the city; a space of lively criticism / art practice.
More than a hundred undergraduate & postgraduate students
in Drama &
Theatre Studies, study, work, & perform in Granary, contributing
to debate & practice -welcoming the perspective of the
professional artist & critic.
Granary explores contemporary performance & art practices
from a range of thematic, theoretical, historical & pedagogic
perspectives, introducing new work by international artists
who have not shown before in Ireland, as well as examining
historical moments of experimentation. Granary seeks to complement
existing theatre / arts programmes within the city of Cork & seeks
to offer opportunities for Cork-based artists to show work.
Granary collaborates with numerous arts & community organisations.
It works in partnership with Drama
& Theatre Studies at UCC, as well as other universities
& colleges. A strong emphasis is placed on developing people's
interest in new forms of performance through regular fora
for debate.
The Granary building encompasses a black box theatre, bright
studio (suitable for workshops and rehearsals) & a foyer
which may be utilised for visual art exhibitions & installations.
The programme is eclectic; reflecting the usage by the University's
Drama Society Dramat,
& other Societies & Academic Departments within UCC.
Granary's own artistic programme focuses on contemporary performance
work by national & international artists. Spanning art
forms, the programme includes Live Art & new theatrical
works.
Granary is open for submissions from Directors, Companies & Visual Artists & operates a flexible Hire & Collaboration policy.
