THIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT FOR THE RUN!
Flann O’Brien’s masterpiece of postmodern dark comedy realised on stage for just the second time ever.
A brutal murder and robbery sets the scene for Flann O’Brien’s dark tale of man’s quest for glory, and what he’s willing to do to achieve it. Our hero, a murderer and a robber, is sent on a desperate search for the cash box his devious partner has hidden from him. His quest brings him to a police barracks occupied by two policemen who are more interested in bicycles and the atomic theory than in solving any actual crimes.
Morbid and hilarious, The Third Policeman gives a glimpse into the rapidly deteriorating mind of a man who will do anything to fulfill his greatest desire, to be remembered.
A surreal murder mystery, a highly comical satire and a chilling fable of eternal grief.
Flann O’Brien is considered to be part of “The Holy Trinity of Irish Writers”, along with James Joyce and Samuel Beckett. The Third Policeman was published posthumously in 1967. At Swim Two Birds (his first novel) was praised by Joyce who called him “a real writer, with a true comic spirit”
Adapted by Jocelyn Clarke, Blue Raincoat’s critically acclaimed stage adaptation of the book was a sell out in venues throughout Ireland in 2008 and has since enjoyed a two week sold out run at The Project Arts Centre, Dublin in February 2009.
