Granary are delighted to announce our Summer Programme of classes from The Gaiety School of Acting.




So you think you want to be an actor? This weekend Masterclass reflects what it would be like to be in full-time training as an actor. It helps you to determine if acting is really for you. Students who have previously done this class have moved on to full-time training in Ireland and the UK. Students must be aged 14 + years.

Participants of Young Gaiety Masterclass can expect to:

Create a new play in a working theatre.  This six-day course is dedicated to the craft of acting on the stage and developing your confidence, creativity and theatre knowledge as you discover how to create a new play and bring it to life on a real stage in front of an audience. As you will be working in a theatre throughout the week, you will work with lighting, sound, costume, projection and set. On the Saturday evening, the play will be premiered in the Granary Theatre to friends and family.


Participants of Youth Theatre Production can expect to:

  • learn how to work effectively and confidently with their peers in a theatre environment
  • work effectively with theatre directors, designers and technicians
  • expand their overall theatre performance and production skills
  • create a new play and perform it in a theatre
  • get a chance to try out new performance skills
  • have fun!

Lights, Camera, Action! Join the experts as they help you write, act, light and even do the sound in your very own movie. We then send the footage to be professionally edited and you will recieve a copy of your movie on DVD.

Participants of the Make a Movie course can expect to:Make-a-Movie

This two-day masterclass aims to give experienced actors advanced skills in acting for the stage. You will hone your skills as an actor, develop a process to both acting and auditions. The workshop will provide you with the opportunity to perform in a safe environment while receiving honest, down to earth and relevant advice. Participants will learn how to approach and work with selected text creatively.

Please note that this workshop is exclusive to Cork.

Working with a professional voice coach, you will gain a better understanding of how your voice works, how to breathe, ground yourself and gain the confidence to use your voice effectively. You will also be given a voice workout which, practised diligently, will significantly improve your speaking voice.

Taking three key scenes from three key plays, you will explore how best to use these so that the audience is drawn in, inspired and challenged. Previous facilitators of this workshop include Paul Meade, Jimmy Fay and Tony McCleane-Fay.

This workshop aims to give participants the skills to perform Comedy Improv. This form of Improvisation developed from Theatresports was made famous by Television shows like Whose Line is it Anyway? and Mock the Week. The workshop is a great way for students to develop an acting skill which helps with spontaneity and creativity. The course focuses on having fun while learning techniques which can benefit all aspects of Performance.

Many actors and technical students leave college with their respective skills but in order to get work they have to put on their own productions. Whilst a one or two day workshop will not give a full picture of how to “tech” a show, it will give the student an idea of what to expect if they decide to get involved with a production. This course will introduce participants to the role of the the theatre technician, basic stagecraft and terminology, lantern identification and properties, sound equipment set up and basic design principals.
