SHAKESPEARE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME

The Gaiety School of Acting – The National Theatre School of Ireland – is offering your English class a unique opportunity to experience the best of Shakespeare at Theatres situated in the heart of Cork and Dublin. This year we will also be going to Tipperary, Kerry and Waterford.

Our Shakespeare Schools Programme is aimed at Junior/ Leaving Certificate Students, covering Romeo & Juliet and Othello, with a workshop focusing on original text and designed to directly address the 2014/2015 English syllabus Shakespeare Question.

Our Transition Year Programme is designed to engage students with the works of Shakespeare by exploring text and staging in a creative, fun and alternative manner.

There will also be an in-depth workbook for each student provided by ExamSupport.

 

Our Full-Day Programme will include the following:

Preparation

  • A Teacher(s)/Programme Leader consultation to establish any specific needs/requirements

On the Day

  • View a performance by our talented Repetory Company of Othello or Romeo & Juliet
  • Post-Performance Workshop lead by our experienced facilitators:**

-The workshop will explore specific Leaving /Junior Cert Questions

-Each workshop will include text analysis, role-play, physical inter-play

The sessions are broken down into:
Session 1 (Leaving Cert) will begin at 9.30 and run to 2.30
This will include a performance of Othello, a 2 hour workshop and a 45 minute lunch break.
Session 2 (Junior Cert)will begin at 10.45 and run to 3.30
This will include a performance of Romeo and Juliet, a 1.5 workshop and a 45 minute lunch break.

We endeavour to offer a highly engaging and educational programme. This unique offer is open to Junior, Transition and Leaving Cert students at the same time and brings Shakespeare to life through multimedia & interactive features, that have been written, designed and prepared by experienced teachers to provide effective revision. Our programme will run during the day to suit schools travelling from around the country.
