Granary presents
IMPROVISATION MASTER-CLASS
GRANARY STUDIO 16 & 17 JULY 10am - 5PM
Having honed improv skills enables an actor to be more reactive, interactive, and totally in-the-moment at auditions and in performance. Improv can be used to develop original material and characters as well as are rehearsal tool to explore written text. In this master-class,performers will work through two different but related approaches.
Andy Crook: Working with the body in space, performers will explore how they can find true play and means of self-expression. Through simple exercises and physical actions they can find a true connection with the material they create. Performers will explore and release the different dynamics of the body order to create vibrant work using rhythm, physical musicality and each other. Performers will discover how they can extend their physical impulses to inhabit an exiting world of new possibilities.
John Dawson: Performers will explore various improv processes using collaborative games and exercises to develop personal intuitive skills, mental/emotional agility and heightened communication abilities. The elements of narrative; plot, character, conflict and resolution are emphasized along with the automatic acceptance of ‘offers’ to advance and develop scenic moments.
By melding these approaches, actors will learn to instantly create engaging, truthful and highly reactive characters in well-constructed scenic stories.
