FEWER EMERGENCIES
Granary Theatre | 13th - 16th February | 8pm | €10 / €5
Martin Crimp is one of the most significant contemporary playwrights, having become well known for his earlier piece, Attempts on Her Life.
Fewer Emergenciesis made up of three linked pieces: Whole Blue Sky, about the disintegration of a marriage; Face to the Wall, which recounts a shooting in a school; and Fewer Emergencies, an extraordinary story about how to deal with life’s emergencies, both personal and political. In these pieces, Crimp uses unnamed speakers and places to create an unspecified, compelling world full of potential violence, which pulls apart comfortable middle class lives… Each demonstrates Crimp’s virtuosity and his ironic, detached, imagistic, highly crafted language.
Post show discussion with director on Wednesday 13 February
‘…if he opens the door, if he lets people in, if he takes them up the stairs, shows them the cupboards of precious wood, the fresh figs, the knives and the uranium…then what? – they’ll what?’
