Granary New Performance Projects presents

The Cabinet of Curiosities

23 June at 8pm

The Cabinet of Curiosities is a performance project emerging from a collaboration between sound/artist Mick O’Shea and performers Regina Crowley and Bernadette Cronin. This transdisciplinary performance is based on the model of a conversation, which in its purest form involves looking, listening and responding in the liveness of the moment and leaving space for silence and reflection. Each of the media are equal players in this performance: the sound dimension is not intended as a descriptive or complementary medium but as a medium in its own right, engaging in dialogue with the performers as all three together create the cabinet.

Cabinets of curiosity, a phenomenon of the Renaissance, traditionally presented the rare, the exceptional and the marvelous, encompassing both God’s creation and man’s art; with this 21st Century cabinet we also pull back the curtain to reveal the curious, the difference being that the sound/images presented are not static: this is a kinaesthetic cabinet constantly shifting in the spectator’s presence.

This project is predicated on the notion of a journey the three artists are undertaking together and we will present two stages of our journey for the Granary New Performance Projects Series, one in June and one later in the year, in November. Phase two of the exploration will reflect and build on phase one
